Boulder’s CTRL+Console raises $261,000 seed round

BOULDER — The makers of a mobile app that allows an iPad touchscreen to control media editing programs such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro with the swipe of a finger, has raised a quarter-million dollars to develop more apps.

Boulder-based CTRL+Console, founded in 2012 by Jeff Chow, closed a round of $261,000 from the Boulder-based Foundry Group, entrepreneur Jud Valeski of Boulder and several other angel investors.

It will use the money to develop interfaces for more apps, including photography, 3-D modeling and audio design.

In Colorado, 1 in 3 women, 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 transgender individuals will experience an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime. During April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the hopes of increasing conversations about this very important issue.

CTRL+Console is an application that turns the iPad into an intuitive, touchscreen remote for a number of creative programs, including Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. Using swiping gestures replaces keyboard shortcuts, speeding the creative editing process.

To date, creative software largely has been designed around the keyboard and relies heavily on hundreds of keyboard shortcuts to improve speed of use.

“Human-computer interfaces are one of our themes at Foundry Group,” said Ryan McIntyre, co-founder and managing director, in a prepared statement. “As a musician and recording engineer, I could immediately see the applications for audio mixing, but after meeting with Jud and Jeff, I realized this has the potential to greatly impact the entire creative field and beyond. One coffee date and we were in.”

CTRL+Console works closely with its advisory board made up of Valeski, founder of social data technology provider Gnip (recently acquired by Twitter), Brad Shell, founder of 3-D drafting tool SketchUp (acquired by Google), and serial entrepreneur Jonathan Beninson.
