Boulder startups pitching at Galvanize Demo Day with eye on Google

Several Boulder-based startups will pitch at Galvanize’s first Demo Day on Thursday, with a chance to pitch at Google for Entrepreneurs’ Demo Day in California in April on the line.

Galvanize, a network of co-working and developer education campuses, will host the Demo Day at its Golden Triangle campus in Denver.

Fifteen startups will give three-minute pitches to a panel of judges, with the top three being nominated for the Google event. Galvanize is a part of Google’s North American Tech Hub Network and gets to send one startup to the Google Demo Day for the second year in a row. From the three Galvanize nominees, Google officials get to choose which Colorado startup gets to be among a group of nine to pitch at Google’s Mountain View, Calif., headquarters in front of a room full of Silicon Valley investors.

The Galvanize event is free and open to the public via online registration.

Denver startup GoSpotCheck was Galvanize’s nominee that got to pitch at the Google event last year.

In addition to pitching in California, the Galvanize winner selected by Google will receive a guaranteed entry into the $250,000 Colorado State University/Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge business pitch competition held in Fort Collins in May. All three Galvanize finalists will receive $10,000 in cloud credits from SoftLayer and participate in SoftLayer’s Catalyst startup incubator.

Startups that are part of the Galvanize community – either through working at Galvanize’s Denver or Boulder campuses or through the Galvanize Venture Fund – and that are actively raising Series A funding rounds were eligible to apply for Thursday’s Demo Day.

Judges on Thursday will include 500 Startups partner Parker Thompson, Galvanize Ventures managing director Nick Wyman, Techstars Boulder managing director Nicole Glaros, Blue Ocean Holdings’ Kurt Hoeven, Galvanize mentor Stephen Schovee, and GoSpotCheck co-founders Matt Talbot and Samantha Halloway.

Boulder-based startups participating include Native, Conspire, Kapta, Makeena, Sportsy, Parkifi, Rooster Market, Notion and All4Staff.

Those from Denver include RxRevu, Bold Betties Outfitters, Earth Index, Meet Mindful, FrontDoor Software, Rachio and Yippiekiyay.
